There is a particular kind of brand you only ever seem to stumble upon. Never advertised at you or suddenly everywhere at once, but sitting quietly on a table in a shop you happened to walk into, in colours you did not know you wanted until you saw them.
Le Bon Shoppe is one of those brands. If you have arrived here searching for the name, this is the story behind it and where you can find it in Cardiff.
The good shop
Le Bon Shoppe began in a small apartment in the Arts District of Los Angeles, created by friends with years of fashion-industry experience behind them. Its name translates as “the good shop”, which neatly sums up the idea: simple everyday pieces, made well, that you genuinely look forward to wearing.
From the right pair of socks to the right T-shirt, the aim was to create the wardrobe staples that sound easy to find but rarely are.
The founders deliberately stay out of the spotlight, preferring to let the products speak for themselves. For a label built around socks, relaxed clothing and soft everyday basics rather than logos or hype, the approach feels entirely appropriate. There is no personality-driven founder story to buy into. The appeal is in the pieces themselves.
Made slowly, on purpose
What distinguishes Le Bon Shoppe is not simply how the products look, but how the company operates.
Rather than following the fashion industry’s relentless cycle of seasons and launch dates, the label produces in calculated quantities and releases pieces when they are ready. This reduces unnecessary overstock while allowing the factories and people making the clothes to work at a more considered pace.
The result is a collection designed around longevity rather than novelty. These are pieces intended to remain in your wardrobe for years, not disappear after a single season.
That thinking also shapes where the brand appears. Le Bon Shoppe has never tried to be stocked by every retailer on every high street. It is a label better discovered in an independent shop with a carefully chosen range, on an ordinary afternoon.
That is how a brand from Los Angeles found its way to Morgan Arcade in Cardiff.

More than socks
Many people first discover Le Bon Shoppe through its socks, and they remain one of the best places to begin.
The Girlfriend Sock is the finer, ribbed everyday style. It is cut slightly shorter and has a neat shape that works with trainers, clogs, loafers and boots. Its colour palette moves between understated neutrals and distinctive shades that are surprisingly difficult to find elsewhere.
The Wally Sock is the more playful striped option. It is the pair to reach for when the rest of an outfit is simple and needs a small lift. Both styles use comfortable cotton blends with added stretch, helping them retain their shape through regular wear.
What fewer people realise is that Le Bon Shoppe has grown far beyond the sock drawer.
The Work Pant and Long Arc Pant follow the same relaxed, considered approach. They are comfortable trousers designed for repeat wear, with distinctive shapes that can become part of an everyday uniform without feeling ordinary.
The Happy Carry Bag is similarly straightforward: an easy, throw-everything-in bag for shopping, the studio, work or the weekend.
When we introduced our first Naturelle long-sleeve tees, they sold through quickly. It confirmed that the appeal of Le Bon Shoppe extends well beyond the socks and that there is a genuine appetite in Cardiff for relaxed, thoughtfully made womenswear.
Choosing your size
Le Bon Shoppe keeps its sizing relatively simple.
Most socks are available in one size, fitting approximately a UK women’s size 4 to 8. The added stretch allows them to sit comfortably across that range. The Girlfriend Sock is the slimmer and finer style, with a neater appearance around the ankle.
The clothing is intentionally relaxed. Starting with your usual size will generally give you the easy shape intended by the label. If you prefer a closer or more oversized fit, the proportions of individual pieces are worth checking before ordering.
To keep the colours, fabric and stretch looking their best, wash on a cool, gentle cycle and avoid excessive heat when drying.
Find Le Bon Shoppe at Unit 17
Unit 17 is an independent clothing shop at 12 Morgan Arcade in the centre of Cardiff. We choose brands for how their products look, feel and wear, rather than how loudly they are promoted.
Le Bon Shoppe was one of the labels we selected as we expanded our womenswear range. It felt like the right fit: a brand that puts everyday quality ahead of short-lived trends and would rather be discovered in a good independent shop than appear everywhere at once.
You can shop the current Le Bon Shoppe collection online or visit us at Unit 17, 12 Morgan Arcade, Cardiff, CF10 1AF.
